Police register FIR of robbery at federal minister's house

KARACHI: Police have registered an FIR of a robbery bid at Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Ali Muhammad Mahar’s residence in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), ARY News reported.

The police lodged the case on a complaint of Mahar’s servant against ten unidentified armed men under sections related to robbery and extending life threats.

According to the content of the FIR, eight to ten armed men broke into the minister’s residence and held the family members hostage. They looted valuables, including five mobile phones, and five tola of gold.

The armed men also deprived the servants of Rs100,000 cash before fleeing the scene.

Earlier, on April 2, the police had said six armed men forced their way into the house of the minister and injured him with the butt of a gun when he tried to stop them.

Mahar sustained head injuries and was shifted to a local hospital for treatment. The police, citing initial investigation, said it was a robbery case.

A police official said the armed men broke into Mahar’s residence by scaling its wall and asked about his servant named Yaseen. They held the family members hostage at gunpoint and also went into the minister’s room, he added. The official, however, said the armed men didn’t resort to firing.
