LAHORE: Polling for the Senate by-election on a general seat has been underway in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday.
The upper house seat had fallen vacant following disqualification of the PTI’s Senator Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry.
PML-N’s Rana Sanaullah and the PTI’s Salma Ijaz have been in the field for the Senate seat.
Polling will continue without break until 5:00 pm.
The PTI has announced boycott of the election as the party’s founder has announced not to contest any by election.
Deputy Opposition Leader Moin Qureshi has said that the opposition has boycotted the by-election and its members will not cast votes.
PML-N candidate Rana Sanaullah has called the opposition’s behaviour as undemocratic and non-political. “The opposition parties had no way out except to escape from the contest,” he said.
“The PTI’s political career has come to an end,” he remarked.
