KARACHI: Following unscheduled power cuts in the provincial capital of Sindh, Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) Karachi chief Naeem ur Rehman has announced a major protest against the K-Electric at 50 different locations in the city on Friday (April 6).
The JI also announced a massive protest in the Red zone area on April 20.
Addressing a public gathering the JI Leader requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the load shedding taking place in the city.
“The names of K-E top management must also be placed on the Exit Control List”
Rehman further said that the Federal Investigation Agency and National Accountability Bureau should conduct inquiries regarding various allegations made on the company’s privatization and asked the authorities to suspend the privatization of K-E.
“The authorities must ensure that K-E repays the Rs200 billion owed to different organizations and Rs100 billion pocketed from consumers,” he said.
“K-E is now blaming a shortage of gas [for load-shedding] even though the SSGC [Sui Southern Gas Company] was providing sufficient gas to the company without any contract,” he said, alleging that K-E had suspended power production from the furnace oil plant in Bin Qasim because of increasing expenses.
The people of Karachi are already suffering from the shortage of water and now these unscheduled power cuts have really taken a toll on them.
“The public is facing a double menace,” he said.
He also criticized the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for not being able to properly managing the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board.
