Princess Anne has paid tribute to fallen soldiers at a moving Anzac Day dawn service in central London, appearing shortly before 5am at Wellington Arch in Hyde Park Corner for one of the most solemn commemorations in the royal calendar.
The Princess Royal arrived in the early morning darkness for the ceremony marking Anzac Day, which honours the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who served and died in military conflicts, peacekeeping missions and wars. The annual observance also commemorates the Gallipoli landings of 1915, a defining moment in both nations’ histories.
Dressed in an elegant emerald green tailored coat, structured hat and black gloves, Princess Anne stood out against the subdued dawn light as she joined dignitaries, military personnel and members of the public gathered in quiet reflection. A red poppy pinned to her lapel served as a visible symbol of remembrance.
During the service, organised by the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions, Princess Anne laid a wreath of red poppies in honour of the fallen. She bowed her head in silence as the crowd observed a moment of reflection.
Princess Anne’s early morning appearance in London comes days after her recent visit to Regent’s Park, where she attended the opening of the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Garden and met with horticultural staff during a separate public engagement.
