ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has decided to expel dissident Ayesha Gulalai from the party, ARY News reported.
The PTI chairman has written to Speaker National Assembly and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to disqualify Gulalai from her reserved seat in the National Assembly. The decision to expel Gulalai was taken by the PTI leadership with the intervention of Imran Khan.
She will be disqualified under Article 63-A of the Constitution. The party said it is not liable for her actions after she violated party discipline and announced to quit the party but did not renounce her parliament seat.
Gulalai shot to prominence after she addressed an explosive press conference accusing the PTI chief of misogyny and sending her inappropriate text messages. She also alleged that women were not respected in the PTI and she had quit over differences with the party leadership. All charges have been dismissed by the party.
Gulalai was sent a show cause notice after the press conference to explain her actions but she failed to respond. The party sent a final notice to Gulalai, a copy of which was also sent to the ECP and Speaker National Assembly.
