People rejected PML-N call to welcome Nawaz: PTI leader

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry on Friday asked the Punjab caretaker government to review its arrangements with regard to maintaining law and order during former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter’s return to the country. 

Speaking at a press conference, he said situation in the provincial capital is normal as no one responded to the PML-N call for gathering in front of Lahore airport to welcome the party leaders.

He said the caretaker government’s extraordinary security arrangements have caused a panic in the city.

Had the PTI been in power, it wouldn’t have suspended mobile phone network or blocked roads, Mr. Chaudhry said and added this all is happening because of a lack of experience to handle such a situation.

He said the people whose money has been looted are being asked to come to the airport to welcome Sharif and his daughter.

He explained that there are simple allegations of corruption levelled against Sharifs.

They owned properties of billions of rupees in London, but failed to justify where did they get the money from to buy them, he said adding that the NAB law is clear in this regard.

“If you have bought a property or a car you have to justify where did you get the money from to buy it.”

If a public office holder fails to provide the source of income it reinforces the impression that he had made money through corrupt practices, he added.

Commenting on a terrorist attack on former KP chief minister and MMA candidate Akram Khan Durrani’s convoy on Friday morning, he asked the KP chief minister to summon a meeting of the apex committee to discuss and evolve a security plan to curb incidents of terrorism.
