LAHORE: The Punjab government on Saturday launched a crackdown against overloading and the use of gas cylinders in school vans, rickshaws, and buses, ARY News reported.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Sherazi stated that LPG cylinders will not be allowed in school vans, wagons, and rickshaws. He emphasized that to ensure the safety of children, strict action will be taken against the use of gas cylinders and overloading in passenger vehicles.
He also ordered that children no longer be seated in the front of rickshaws alongside the driver, and directed that hanging bags and other items on the sides of rickshaws be banned.
Additionally, rickshaws running on Canal Road are prohibited from accommodating passengers on the front seat adjacent to the driver. In his directives, he stated that pickup drivers are only allowed to seat one person on the front passenger seat.
The CTO has instructed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSPs) and the Education Unit to inform school administrations and parents about the new safety measures.
