NEW DELHI: Indian National Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Thursday demanded to initiate inquiry against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rafale deal scam.

“There is “enough evidence” to prosecute Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the matter,” Gandhi said in his tweet.

As the Supreme Court deliberates whether to re-open the case involving the acquisition of the 36 Rafale fighter jets, the government told the court that crucial documents linked to the deal was stolen.

Rahul, who has been alleging corruption and crony capitalism in the deal, said that it was a case of “obvious cover-up”.

The Congress has alleged that the government accepted an overpriced deal in 2016 and overlooked public sector aviation firm Hindustan Aeronautics Limited so that industrialist Anil Ambani’s rookie firm Reliance Defence could bag an offset contract.

A number of petitions have been filed in the apex court regarding procurement of 36 Rafale fighters from French manufacturer Dassault Aviation, in which the Supreme Court of India had given the Modi government a certificate of exoneration.
