One Rangers man martyred, five terrorists shot dead in Karachi shootout

KARACHI: A Rangers official was martyred while three others sustained wounds when suspected terrorists attacked them with hand grenades and automatic weapons on Tuesday night in the city’s Lyari area, ARY News reported.  

According to a spokesperson for the Rangers, a search operation was carried out in Lyari’s Ali Mohammad and Zikri Para on the basis of intelligence-based information about the presence of gangster Ghaffar Zikri in the area.

A heavy contingent of the Rangers and police personnel conducted the operation after cordoning off the area.

On seeing the security personnel, terrorists hurled hand grenades and opened fire on them. As a result, one Rangers man was martyred while three others sustained injuries, who were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.

When the law enforcement personnel returned fire, five suspected militants were killed on the spot.

Arms and ammunition, including five Kalashnikovs, hand grenades, 9mm pistol, were recovered from their possession.

The martyred Rangers man was identified as Sepoy Fawad. However, the identities of the suspected terrorists killed in the shootout could not be ascertained immediately.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal condemned the attack on the security personnel and directed the IG and DIG concerned to furnish a detailed inquiry report about the incident and ensuing shootout.
