KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday responded to a letter of Sindh government seeking formation of judicial commission to probe murder of Irshad Ranjhani and stated it was out of jurisdiction of the high court to hold a judicial inquiry into the matter, ARY News reported.
The SHC registrar, in a letter, said respective district and sessions’ judge had the authority to hold judicial probe.
Either sessions’ judge, or an additional sessions’ judge could order an inquiry as it falls within their jurisdiction, the SHC noted.

“A court order in 2005 is on the record and it’s been a practice that a respective sessions’ judge is approached in case of a judicial probe.”
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah had on yesterday (Feb 11) ordered removal of Karachi police chief, Additional Inspector General Karachi Dr Amir Sheikh over the incident.
Union Council chairman, Abdul Raheem Shah, on Feb 8 had killed an alleged mugger, Irshad Ranjhani, who was actually a political worker.
Earlier during his speech in the Sindh Assembly today, CM Shah said police officers, who witnessed the killing of Irshad Ranjhani, were also involved in the murder.
“Did the police not see Irshad Ranjhani lying in the pool of blood and dying,” asked the chief minister in his speech. He demanded the cops involved in the case should be arrested forthwith.
He had he also called for judicial inquiry into the matter within 24 hours. Ranjhani was shot five times from a point blank range, said the CM.
