Reference against Altaf Hussain sent to UK police: Home Office

According to ARY News Islamabad correspondent, Interior Ministry spokesman claimed that the UK government’s home office has formally replied to the reference sent against MQM chief over his August 22 speech.

The reply states that the evidence provided by interior ministry has been sent to London Metropolitan Police and the law enforcement agency is looking into the evidence including the August 22 speech in which Altaf Hussain incited his party-men to violence.

It adds that British authorities will contact the Pakistan High Commission in case, it requires further evidence against Altaf Hussain.

On August 30, the interior ministry claimed to have provided British authorities with proofs regarding Altaf Hussain’s speech in which the MQM chief incited party workers to violence.

The reference sent to UK states that Altaf Hussain violated local and international laws in his August 22 speech and the British government must take action against him according to its laws.

Altaf Hussain’s August 22 speech

MQM chief Altaf Hussain reportedly issued anti-Pakistan statements and urged his followers to raise “Pakistan Murdabad” (death to Pakistan) slogans in his August 22 speech outside Karachi Press Club.

The speech also incited MQM workers to attack media houses which resulted in attack on ARY News office.

Though Altaf rendered a formal apology after the speech, a party leader who resigned after the speech, claimed that Altaf defended his speech in a telephone call even after the apology.
