Remembering the German footballing greats  

Germany is one of the toughest teams when it comes to international football. The side has won three FIFA world Cups and three European Championships. It is the only country to have won the men’s and women’s football World Cup.

Let us have a glance at Germany’s top four footballing greats that have immense contributions to the team.

Mirsolav Klose:

Miroslav Klose is Germany’s all time highest scorer. He has scored 69 time in 132 matches. Klose was rewarded the Golden Shoe in the 2006 FIFA World Cup played in Germany.

He scored five headers in  the 2002 World Cup at South Korea and Japan. He also netted the ball four times in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Gerd Muller:

Gerd Muller is the second highest goal scorer for Germany. Muller scored 68 goals in 62 appearances for his team.

The attacker scored 10 goals in the 1970 for which he was elected as the European Footballer of the Year. His record was intact for 14 years.

He stands at No.11 in the list of all time goal scorers despite fewer appearances than the players in the Top 25 list.

Franz Beckenbauer:

Franz Beckenbauer was one of the most versatile footballers in history. He started his career as a mid-fielder but was known for his skills as a defender.

Beckenbauer made 103 appearances for West Germany and participated in three World Cups for his side. He is the only player to win a World Cup while serving as coach as well as a captain in 1974.

He also won the World Cup while serving as a manager in 1990.

Beckbenbauer is considered as the greatest German footballer.

Oliver Kahn:

Oliver Kahn served as the wall between attackers and the goal for the opposition. He served Germany from 1994 to 2006.

Kahn was well-known for his performance in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He helped his team reach the final of the tournament in which Germany lost 0-2 to Brazil.

He was rewarded the Golden Ball for his performance in the tournament.
