Nawaz Sharif to decide about my resignation, says Rana Sanaullah

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Saturday said that he has submitted his resignation to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and the decision on his relinquishing the provincial law ministry now rests with his party chief, ARY News reported.

Sanaullah’s controversial media statement sparked protests from religious parties with sit-in staged by a Tehreek Labbaik faction demanding his resignation ending on Friday with assurance that he will present himself before Peer of Sial Sharif to offer an explanation.

Speaking to media after discussing the matter with party leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and Zaeem Qadri at Railway Headquarters, Rana Sanaullah maintained that he has submitted his resignation to Nawaz Sharif who will have the final say in the matter.

“Our political guide is Nawaz Sharif and my resignation and the decision regarding the matter rests with him,” said Sanaullah.

He also claimed that a PML-N MPA who is a relative of Peer of Sial Sharif is also helping the party to resolve the matter.

A three-week-long dharna by Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) at Faizabad interchange of Islamabad finally ended on November 27 after the government acquiesced to the demands of Allama Khadim Rizvi, the party’s chief.

Hundreds of Tehreek-e-Labbaik supporters had been camping at the interchange since November 6, calling for the resignation of Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid who they blamed for a hastily-abandoned change in the oath of elected representatives.

But another cleric, Ashraf Jalali, who heads Tehreek Sirat-e-Mustaqeem and his own faction of Tehreek Labbaik, continued a sit-in outside Punjab Assembly demanding resignation of Rana Sanaullah which only ended yesterday.
