Samina Baig has her eyes set on conquering K2 this summer

She is the youngest Muslim woman in the world to climb Mount Everest and the third Pakistani to do it. Samina Baig climbed Mount Everest at the tender age of 21, a feat unmatched by any Muslim woman in the world before her. However, Samina does not rest on her laurels as the 24 year old Pakistani mountain climber has her eyes set on climbing atop mountain K2.

K2 might not be larger than Mount Everest (which Samina has conquered before) but the young Pakistani female has her work cut out for her. K2, also known as Chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu, and Mount Godwin-Austen, is the second highest mountain in the world at 8,611 metres, after Mount Everest. Being a professional climber since 2009, Samina has always been fond of climbing. She has been a professional climber since 2009 and has been employed as a mountain guide and expedition leader in the Hindu Kush and the peaks of Karakoram.

On 19th May 2013, Samina Baig made headlines when she climbed atop Mount Everest on 19th May 2013 with Indian twin girls  Tashi and Nungshi Malik. It was a historic moment for the world to witness when they planted the national flags of their countries India and Pakistan side by side, atop Mount Everest. Her brother Mirza Ali also frequently accompanies her on her climbing expeditions.

Samina Baig captured the seven summits at the record age of 23 years and hoisted the national flag of Pakistan on all seven. There is no doubt that the Pakistani climber will once again make the nation proud and perch Pakistan’s flag atop mountain K2.
