ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Daniyal Aziz and Hanif Abbasi for complaining over court’s discriminatory attitude towards Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the ruling party, ARY News reported.
The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, while expressing resentment queried PML-N leaders the motive of such remarks.
Daniyal Aziz apprised the bench that his remarks were not concerned with the top court and solely related to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s proceedings in another petition against PTI chairman Imran Khan.
The bench observed that contempt of court would not be tolerated and directed Aziz and Abbasi to ensure implementation of the court orders.
The bench further said that if the trend continued, the court may impose a complete ban on media talks regarding court proceedings by urging the PML-N leaders to have their confidence in state institutions.
ECP DEFERS HEARING TWO REFERENCES AGAINST IMRAN KHAN
It is pertinent to mention here that the ECP early today deferred hearing of two petitions, seeking disqualification of PTI leaders Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen.
A five-member ECP bench took up two separate petitions filed by PML-N members Talal Chaudhry and Muhammad Khan Daha against Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen respectively.
The petitions sought disqualification of PTI chairman on the grounds of submitting false financial statement with his electoral papers, regarding purchase of his Bani Gala residence and Jehangir Tareen on grounds of the charges of loan write-off.
PML-N legislator Daniyal Aziz complained discrimination against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while talking to media persons regarding the ECP’s adjournment of petitions.
“The commission had rejected references forwarded by National Assembly Speaker against Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen by terming it pre-election matter,” he added.
“Petitions of similar nature have been pending against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The petitioners have raised pre-election issues against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as well”, he added.
Aziz maintained that the PML-N will soon submit an application to the ECP to stop discrimination against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Talking to media outside the Supreme Court, PTI’s counsel Babar Awan said that no concrete evidence was produced during the supreme court hearing of Hanif Abbasi’s petition. He declared a report relating to Bani-Gala as baseless adding that it was leaked before it could be presented to the court.
