SC resents over inaction against Sindh police corrupt officers

KARACHI: Expressing resentment over inaction against high-profile officials of Sindh police department over their involvement in criminal activities, a Supreme Court bench at Karachi Registry ordered stern action against corrupt officers, ARY News reported.

An inquiry committee constituted by the apex court in a hearing on Thursday (today) submitted an interim report over corruption in the department.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed expressed dissatisfaction while dubbing the report as ‘biased’.

Casting his doubts, he remarked that the ‘big fish’, implying high-profile officials, never get trapped and the police investigation revolves around low profile personnel only.

Justice Maqbool Baqar, another member of the bench, asserted that there is an urgency of dispelling an impression that police officials are exempted to obey the rules while urging authorities concerned for strict action.

Talking about the possibilities, the Sindh advocate general said action could be taken against officers in the police department under the Civil Servants Act.

The bench then ordered the committee to carry out action against all the corrupt employees including officials of the rank of deputy inspector general and sought a report within two weeks.

It is worth mentioning here that the top court had taken suo motu notice of the involvement of the police officials in crimes including murder, robbery, and extortion and had constituted an inquiry committee to tackle corruption in the law enforcement agency.
