SC serves notice on Imran over his financial records, Bani Gala money trail

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court issued notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan to file his response to applications filed by a Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader seeking probe into his financial records and money trail behind the purchase of his Bani Gala residence.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, was seized with the hearing of the petition filed ruling party leader Hanif Abbasi seeking disqualification of Imran Khan for failing to disclose his off-shore properties in his nomination papers.

The hearing was adjourned till tomorrow.

Speaking to reporters outside the apex court, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the PML-N had filed new applications in the main case to drag it for too long. When they saw their defeat, they resort to instituting more applications, he said while referring to the PML-N leaders.

He maintained that the PTI chief’s former spouse had gifted him Bani Gala residence spread over 300 cannals and the money for its purchase was brought into the country through a legal channel.

He added Khan’s lawyer had begun to explain the money trail behind the purchase of the PTI chief’s residence and establishment of his offshore company in the court. Having an offshore company is no crime, he contended.
