Sean 'Diddy' Combs release date moved up again ahead of appeal hearing

Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to leave prison slightly earlier than expected, as federal records show his release date has been moved up once again.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the 56-year-old music mogul is now scheduled for release on April 15, 2028. The revised date reflects a 10-day reduction from a previous April 25, 2028 timeline, and marks the latest in a series of adjustments that have gradually shortened his sentence.

Combs’ projected release date has shifted several times in recent months. Initially expected in May 2028, it was pushed back to June before being brought forward to April, with further reductions since.

He is currently serving a 50-month federal sentence after being convicted last summer on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, in violation of the Mann Act. The conviction followed a high-profile trial in New York. Combs was acquitted of more serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, which could have resulted in a life sentence.

Before being sentenced, Combs spent nearly a year in custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center after being denied bail. He is now incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey, a facility his legal team had requested due to its rehabilitation programs and proximity to his family.

“In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix,” his attorney, Teny Geragos, wrote in a court filing in Oct. 2025.

He has since been enrolled in a drug abuse program, which may contribute to sentence reductions through good behavior credits.
