KARACHI: Karachi police on Tuesday arrested a 60-year-old man for stealing more than 100 motorcycles from different areas of the city, ARY News reported.

The 60-year-old was arrested by Ferozabad police and at least 22 motorcycles were recovered from his custody.

SHO Ferozabad told ARY News that the suspect was arrested seven times before today by police in different areas of Karachi and police has all sorts of evidence against him including videos and First Information Reports (FIRs).

The police officer maintained that the suspect used to steal motorcycles from different areas of the city including shopping hubs like Tariq Road and used to sell them at between Rs8, 000 to Rs6, 000.

The man being dubbed the “king of motorcycle thieves” is said to have stolen and sold more than 100 motorcycles.

The suspect worked alone.

It is pertinent to note here that police’s Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) in July claimed to have arrested two “bike lifters” whose around two dozen family members were also involved in stealing around 2,000 motorbikes over the last several years in the metropolis.

The ACLC as part of its campaign against the rising theft of motorbikes has arrested two suspects — Sabir Khokhar, alias Kala, and Mohammed Ashraf Khokhar, said ACLC SSP Syed Asad Raza. “This gang of bikes-lifters is known as Khokhar Group.

Around 25 to 30 members of Khokhar Group are involved in bike-lifting and during the last 10 years the gang had stolen between 1,500 and 2,000 motorbikes, which were subsequently sold in Balochistan as they had links with criminal elements in the Khuzdar area.
