Shahbaz holds bureaucracy responsible for poor maintenance of Punjab hospitals

While chairing a high level health reforms meeting, he was displeased with the provincial bureaucracy for the poor condition of hospital and warned that the Commissioners and DCOs will be held responsible in case of any untoward incident in any DHQ or THQ hospitals.

He gave the task of improving service delivery in DHQ and THQ hospitals to the Commissioners and DCOs. The matters pertaining to replacing worn out mattresses, installation of transformers, air conditioners, availability of staff for 24/7 at emergencies, including medical, surgical, gynae, paediatrics and cardiology as well as increasing dialysis facility timings and provision of 24/7 vaccination services, refurbishing waiting areas, installing signage in hospitals, proper lightening and proper disposal of hospital waste will be the responsibility of commissioners and DCOs.

CM also directed for empowering Medical Superintendents for taking punitive and remedial measures at his level. He further directed for biometric attendance at the hospitals.

He directed for observance of proper dress code at public healthcare facilities and desired to ensure prescribed overall or gowns by the doctors and further paramedics and support staff shall also wear uniform.  He also directed to establish Filter Clinics/dispensaries in each UC at urban level to reduce patient load on teaching hospitals.
