Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says NAB laws should be abolished

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has reiterated his call to abolish National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) laws, ARY News reported on Sunday.

Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore, the former premier noted that the Constitution of Pakistan is for the rights of the people and the resolution of disputes, adding that the country was currently suffering from an unprecedented crisis.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi further said that every sector has to play its relevant role for the betterment of the country. However, he said, as long as NAB laws exist, Pakistan cannot move forward, demanding to abolish the laws.

The PML-N leader alleged that due to “false” NAB cases, people were incarcerated, had to abandon their business ventures and that the accountability watchdog had “paralysed” people’s lives.

He questioned if NAB would be able to repair the damage it caused. The former prime minister added that he had called for NAB to be abolished “from the beginning”, claiming that those who put others in jail increased their own assets.
