Sharjeel Khan charged for breaching five Articles of PCB Anti-Corruption Code

LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Tribunal has formally charged Islamabad United batsman Sharjeel Khan for breaching five Articles of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Anti-Corruption Code for Participants 2015.
All the charges are related to the alleged spot-fixing and failing to disclose to PCB about the offer for spot-fixing during Pakistan Super League 2017.
The charges leveled against Sharjeel Khan include breaches of Articles 2.1.1; 2.1.2; 2.1.3; 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code for Participants 2015.
Preliminary hearing for the case was held on Thursday at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
The three-member Anti-Corruption Tribunal was headed by justice (retd) Asghar Haider, in presence of Lt Gen Tauqir Zia and Wasim Bari.
Sharjeel Khan was accompanied by his advocate Shaigan Ijaz, while PCB’s Legal Advisor Taffazul Rizvi along with Haider Ali Khan Advocate, GM Legal Affairs PCB Salman Naseer and Head of PCB’s Vigilance and Security Department Col (retd) Mohammad Azam Khan were also present on this occasion.
The tribunal in consultation with both parties agreed upon the procedure and timelines to be adopted under the Anti-Corruption Code.

This should be noted that five players – Nasir Jamshed, Muhamamd Irfan, Shahzaib Hassan, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif – are currently being scanned by the anti-corruption unit of the PCB for alleged involvement in spot-fixing.
The tribunal directed that PCB shall submit its opening brief detailing its claims along with the evidence to be relied on by 14th April 2017.
“This time period has been agreed in order to give the PCB ACU an opportunity to travel to UK to interview Nasir Jamshed and meet with relevant UK authorities and determine if any of its findings are to be incorporated in the prosecution,” a PCB press release reads.
The tribunal said Sharjeel Khan shall be provided an opportunity to respond by 5th May 2017 and PCB may, at its discretion, file a rebuttal by 10th May 2017. The Final Hearing shall commence from 15th May 2017 on a day to day basis.
Khalid Latif seeks adjournment till next week
Khalid Latif did not appear before the tribunal and has made an application for adjournment of the motion till next week citing health reasons.
The request is allowed and the proceedings in respect of Khalid are adjourned to 11:30am on 31st March 2017. Notice would also be issued with a stipulation that no further adjournment would be granted.
