Yes! Sharmeen has once again taken Pakistan to Oscars. Her documentary “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness” highlighting honor killings in the country has been nominated in Oscar category for Best Documentary – Short.
In her exclusive talk with ARY News, Chinoy said it is a moment of great pride for her to see her country in the Oscars once again.
Brushing off criticism, she expressed her determination to raise the name of her country through her work.
The 88th Academy Awards popularly known as The Oscars ceremony is due to be held on February 28.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy won the Oscar for her documentary film “The Saving Face” in 2012. She is one of the eleven female film directors and the first ever Pakistani to have won the Oscar.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a statement felicitated Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for having her documentary film “A Girl in the River” nominated for the Oscars.
He said the subject of her documentary addresses the issue of honor killings in the society.
Sharif stated that his government is determined for effective legislation to counter this heinous practice and hoped that the efforts of Chinoy will be helpful in this regard.
