Shawwal moon sighted in Pakistan: Eid to be celebrated on Monday

KARACHI: Shawwal moon has been sighted in Pakistan today and Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed on Monday across the country, ARY News reported.
This was announced by Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman while addressing a news conference after a meeting of the committee this evening in Islamabad.
Mufti Muneeb also expressed remorse over recent terror incidents and the accident of oil tanker which has claimed more than 138 lives in Bahawalpur.
Regional Ruet-e-Hilal Committees also met at their headquarters to gather evidences about sighting of the moon.
The moon was clear and was sighted by a large number of people.
Testimonies of moon sighting were received from many cities including Sukker, Lahore, Burewala, Kashmore, Kohat, Sibbi, Sukkur, Jacobabad and Pasni.
The meteorological department had already predicted that there are good chances of sighting the Shawwal moon today.
Various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera and Bannu districts celebrated the Eid on Sunday, despite efforts to shatter a trend of celebrating two Eids in the country.
Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated after the end of Ramazan, the month of fasting, to thank Almighty Allah.
The day will dawn with special prayers after Fajr in mosques for the wellbeing of the ummah, progress and prosperity of Pakistan, and pledge to make the country a citadel of Islam.
After sunrise, the faithful will throng mosques, eidgahs and open places to offer Eid prayers.
After offering eid prayers, the faithful will meet each other and exchange Eid greetings.
However, this year’s eid celebrations have been eclipsed by the the oil tanker incident, which has saddened the entire nation.
Scores of international celebrities congratulated on this occasion, while national celebrities were somber following the recent tragic incidents in Pakistan.
