SHC hears plea seeking revocation of Rao Anwar's bail

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday heard a petition filed by the father of Naqeebullah Mehsud, a Waziristan native who was killed in a staged encounter in Karachi earlier this year, seeks revocation of bail of former Malir SSP Rao Anwar and then DSP Qamar Ahmed Shaikh.

A division bench headed by SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh heard the case.

The bench issued notice to DSP Qamar Ahmed Shaikh over not appearing before the trial court in the case hearing.

The counsel of the petitioner informed the court that accused DSP Qamar was not appearing before the trial court.

Former SSP of Malir, Rao Anwar and then DSP Qamar Ahmed Shaikh along other officials have been booked for allegedly killing four men, including Mehsud, in a fake police encounter in Shah Latif Town on January 13 this year and, separately in a case for foisting fake recoveries of illegal arms and explosives on the victims.

The SHC had adjourned hearing of the petition filed by Naqeebullah Mehsud’s father seeking revocation of the bail granted to Anwar and ex-DSP Qamar till November 26 (today).

The plea was filed by Barrister Faisal Siddiqui on behalf of Mehsud’s father. He argued that the trial court had approved the suspects’ bails without hearing the complainants and without taking the evidence into consideration.

The bench sought the accused response over the application and adjourned the hearing of the case.
