SHC issues notices over re-opening plea of May 12 carnage case

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notices to the federation and Sindh over a petition seeking re-opening of the case of May 12 carnage in Karachi, ARY News reported.

Petitioner Iqbal Kazmi has pleaded to the court to re-open the hearing of the May 12 suo-moto case to bring the perpetrators of the bloodshed to justice.

The petitioner said that the case was closed by the judges who had taken oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).

More than 50 people were killed in the violent incidents on the arrival of former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to Karachi on May 12, 2007. Gunfights and clashes erupted across the provincial capital and the government machinery was used to block all major roads on the day.

Than chief justice of Sindh High Court Justice Sabeehuddin had constituted a larger bench to hear the case to bring the culprits to justice.
