SHC orders seizing passports of accused in SSGC corruption case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) was informed on Tuesday that suspects in the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) corruption reference inflicted over Rs 1.17 billion loss to the national exchequer, ARY News reported.

The statement was presented before the court by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

During the hearing, the SHC bench extended bail of former chief financial officer SSGC, Shahid Hussain, ex-general manager Finance Usman Malik and others and ordered them to submit Rs 5 million in surety bonds each.

The court also directed the suspects to submit their passports with the Nazir of the SHC.

In March this year, the Executive Board of the NAB had approved filing of corruption references against ex-MD of SSGC Azeem Iqbal Siddiqui, ex-chairman Finance Committee Shahid Aziz Siddiqui, General Manager Finance Malik Usman and others for hiring the services of a firm allegedly in violation of PPRA rules and without examining the technical and financial capability that caused a loss of Rs1.174 billion to the national exchequer.
