Sheikh Rasheed says will not budge on court verdict on petition seeking his disqualification

RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed on Friday said he would not budge on either of the court verdict in the case seeking his disqualification over alleged mis-declaration of his assets.

“Neither I hold any Iqama, nor conceal my assets. All the documents of my assets are available, however, whatever the decision comes, Insha Allah, I will give a historic statement,” he said talking to ARY News anchor Iqrar-ul-Hassan when he was asked about the speculations doing rounds on social media that Sheikh had adopted gag over disqualification of former defence minister Khawaja Asif for he feared for himself.

The AML chief said if the court verdict came against him it would not matter much and if it came in his favor then it would be definitely good news for him.

“It makes no difference to me whatever the court verdict is I will openly accept it,” he said.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, has reserved the verdict on the petition seeking disqualification of Sheikh Rasheed.

Advocate Shakeel Awan, the petitioner’s lawyer, submitted that the AML chief didn’t declare his complete assets in his nomination papers for 2013 general elections.

He said the lawmaker mis-declared his assets and, therefore, he should be disqualified as member of the National Assembly.

To a query about improvement in air travel service and Pakistan Railways, Sheikh Rasheed differed with the opinion if there was any in both the services.

He alleged Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi of taking kickbacks in Boeing 747 flights.
