Shocking footage: Houston before and after Hurricane Harvey

HOUSTON: A dramatic video of Hurricane Harvey in Houson has surfaced, showing before and after scenes of flooding and massive amount of devastation caused by it.

The footage is released by the New York Times that shows Google Street View before flooding and damage triggered by the hurricane to the infrastructure of the city after it made landfall.

Officials in Texas said Monday afternoon that at least nine people appear to have died as a result of the storm battering the state. That toll includes six people in Harris County, home to Houston; one person in Rockport, near where Harvey made landfall; and another person in La Marque, near Galveston.

Rescue teams in boats, trucks and helicopters scrambled Monday to reach hundreds of Texans marooned on flooded streets in and around the city of Houston before monster storm Harvey returns.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said more than 8,000 people had been brought, soaking and desperate, to shelters in America’s fourth largest city, and defended the decision not to evacuate before Harvey struck over the weekend.

During a news conference Monday, Trump said he expects Congress to take “very rapid action” to help the storm-ravaged areas. Trump, who is visiting Texas on Tuesday, also told reporters he may return to Texas on Saturday and, depending on the storm’s movements, could also visit Louisiana the same day.

“I look very much forward to it,” Trump said of his planned Tuesday trip to Texas. “Things are being handled really well. The spirit is incredible, of the people.”
