Police ordered to scrutinize security guards at public institutions

The comprehensive report, presented by Chief Secretary Sindh in front of the court during the ‘Karachi Unrest Case’ hearing, highlighted performance of the provincial government during the last five years.

A five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali ordered police officials to improve the overall security situation in Sindh.

Justice Jamali ordered Sindh police to make sure that security guards hired by public institutions particularly hospitals go through a proper security screening process.

Another report regarding the installation closed circuit television cameras was also offered in the court today.

Recounting the recent terror incident in Quetta that targeted a hospital and killed at least 72 people mostly lawyers, he said if strict security measures would have adopted at public places, we could have avoided such a huge loss of precious lives.

The reported revealed that at least 450 suspects were arrested after explosives were recovered from their possession while another 15,000 were held for carrying illegal weapons.

Saying that four officials were being interrogated in ‘Owais Shah Abduction Case,’ the report said, efforts were being made to depoliticize police department, the report continued to add.

According to the report, more than one million Afghans are living only in Sindh out of which 2,896 Afghans were arrested in different cases.
