Sindh govt to unveil Rs1 trillion budget today

KARACHI: With the general elections looming on the horizon Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led Sindh government is all set to unveil today its 10th consecutive budget with an outlay of over Rs1 trillion for the fiscal year 2017-18, ARY News reported.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who also holds the finance department’s portfolio, will present the budget in the Sindh Assembly session scheduled to be held at 3:00pm. He is likely to chair a meeting of his cabinet to get the new year budget approved.
Official sources said total expenditure of the financial year 2017-18 is estimated to be over Rs1 trillion with non-development budget estimated at Rs665bn while Rs346bn allocated under the head of the annual development programme.
Much to the relief of people, the government plans not to impose any new tax with 30,000 jobs to be given to youths in the financial year.
The province is expected to get the revenue of over Rs627bn from the federal transfers. However, it estimated to generate Rs 200bn from its own resources.
A sum of Rs175bn will be earmarked for education, Rs65bn for health, Rs88bn for the law and order, police, prison and home department and Rs3.5bn have been allocated for public universities and educational boards.
The provincial government will spend Rs30 billion under the head of district ADP to be executed through local bodies. Rs11bn will be earmarked as a special package for Karachi to be spent on different development projects.
