Sindh imposes section 144 to ban protests, sit-ins, public gatherings

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Sunday imposed Section 144 across the province for one month with immediate effect.

The government has imposed ban over protests, sit-ins, public meetings and processions under section 144 for one month.

There will be complete ban over gathering of five or more people under the prohibition.

The decision has been taken in view of the law-and-order situation, according to the notification issued by Home Secretary of Sindh Muhammad Iqbal Memon.

The police department has been directed that in case of violation action should be taken under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The order will come into effect from October 12 (today).

Earlier, the Rawalpindi administration imposed Section 144 for four days, banning public gatherings, protests, and pillion riding, as Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) announced “Aqsa March” towards the US Embassy in Islamabad.

The order issued by Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, citing security concerns and intelligence reports indicating a threat to public order.

According to the official notification, which warned of a “serious risk” to human life, public property, and infrastructure within Rawalpindi, especially around sensitive areas and prominent roads.

“Intelligence reports suggest that certain groups are actively mobilizing with intentions to disturb law and order through large gatherings, protests, and disruptive assemblies,” the notification stated.

The DC prohibited all types of public gatherings, rallies, processions, protests, use of loudspeakers from October 8 to October 11, 2025, within the Rawalpindi district.
