Sindh Police: CCTV cameras to monitor police stations

The provincial police authorities have decided to take the step to curb traditional mischievous attitude towards complainants widely prevails in the department, official sources said.

The CCTV cameras will be installed at the rooms of the SHO, duty officer and outside the police station from the budget of the police department, sources further said.

According to sources, the facilitation rooms will also be arranged at each police station of the city with the assistance of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). The citizens could register their complaints including grievances against the police at the facilitation centres.

The footage of the CCTV cameras will be operated and monitored with a separate command and control room of the police department.

In case of negligence or refusal to register a complaint immediate action will be taken against the concerned official, sources said.

Inspector General Police of Sindh has approved the project and it will be implemented from the amount allocated for the police department in the current fiscal year budget, sources said.

Complaints against strong arm tactics of the police officers are widespread in Karachi and other parts of Sindh, which mostly discourage general public to contact with police for help in minor crimes.
