So should Junoon band reunite this year? Ali Azmat asks fans

Who can forget Pakistan’s biggest rock band, Junoon.

The band had fans across Pakistan and none can forget the members Ali Azmat, Salman Ahmed and Brian O’Connell, whose performances mesmerized a whole generation and inspired them to read Sufi poetry and literature.

Founded in 1990 by Salman Ahmad, the band was known to many as the “U2 of South Asia”  and blended a powerful, arena rock sound with the epic tranquillity of Sufi Muslim love poetry.

The band’s career has spawned numerous hits like Sayonee, Dum Must Qalandar, Ghoom Tana, Dosti, Alvida, Saeein and others. Junoon had shared the stage with artists such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Melissa Etheridge, Alicia Keys, Sting, A R Rahman, Earth Wind and Fire, and Wyclef Jean and performed at diverse venues like the U.N. General Assembly Hall—the first performance of its kind in 2001.

Fans could not see the trio on the same platform since their breakup in 2005 and somehow the band was not able to reunite even after efforts from Salman Ahmad, the guitarist who still takes pride and ownership of the band’s name.

Ali Azmat, once the lead singer of the popular band, today asked the million dollar question from his fans.

“Who wants to see South Asia’s biggest Band ‘Junoon’ reunite this Year?” asked Ali Azmat on his official Facebook page using hashtags of #Junoon, #AliAzmat #SalmanAhmed and #Brian.
