21 stations of green line bus to complete in Dec, CM Sindh told

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was on Friday briefed over the progress of the  Green Line BRT and other public transport projects in Karachi.

Project Director Green Line BRT Sualeh Farooqui informed that the chief minister that over eighty percent work has been completed on the stretch from the Surjani to Municipal Park.

He added that the cost of the project was Rs17.85 billion. The 21-kilometre exclusive corridor till Gurmandir and the Abdul Sattar Edhi interchange have also been completed.

He further informed that the construction work of 21 BRT stations is at final stage and would be completed by the end of December 2018.

Mr Farooqi told the CM Sindh that work of bus depot at Surjani for parking, washing, refueling and maintenance has been completed by sixty percent.

Furthermore, the work on operation command and control building has been completed but its finishing work is still ongoing.

It may be noted that the BRT Green Line project with intersections is 24 km long which includes 12.7 km elevated, 10.9 km at grade, and 422 meters underground and has 25 stations.

Farooqi further said that the phase-II common corridor from Gurumandir up to Municipal Park with a length of 2.5 km has two underpasses at M.A Jinnah Road.

He added that the state-of-art underground bus terminal with parking facility and commercial mezzanine floor was being also being constructed at Numaish.

CM Sindh said that the common corridor was designed by technical team of Asian development Bank (ADB) and World Bank and was being constructed for all upcoming BRT services.

He directed to expedite work and the project and said that he was trying to start the project as soon as possible.
