KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Suhail Anwar Siyal on Thursday heavily criticised the opposition party Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for using ethnicity for politics and “speaking against Sindh”.

During his speech in Sindh Assembly, the PPP MPA said that those who were given asylum in Sindh after the 1947 partition and were provided lands, food and water are today speaking against the province’s interest which is unacceptable.

“People of Sindh opened their homes for you, what is this Mohajir business? whoever is born in Sindh is a Sindhi, Sindh is feeding all Sindhis and providing water to all who live in this province,” thundered Siyal.

The former Sindh interior minister maintained that his party closed the chapter of MQM founder who used to do “anti-state and treasonous speeches” and brought peace to Karachi where MQM used to collect extortion and throw body bags.

‘PPP turning to racism to evade accountability’

MQM-P leader Faisal Sabzwari not only condemned the speech but also said that the PPP leader’s speech just showed how ignorant he was of ground realities and financial affairs of the province.

“The basic elements of his (Siyal) speech were ignorance, discrimination and hate and just shows how ignorant he is of history,” said Faisal Sabzwari.

He maintained that the PPP leaders “always turn racist” when their top leadership faces accountability.

The MQM leader concluded by saying that his party not only knows but will soon give Siyal a befitting reply.

Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) leader Raza Haroon too condemned what he termed “Izhar-e-Bakwas”  by Suhail Siyal and said that such behaviour from a leader belonging to province’s ruling party is “unacceptable”

“Everyone in Pakistan knows Mohajirs created this country and respects the community. Suhail Siyal should learn some history to know the sacrifices of people of Muslim-minority provinces of subcontinent in the creation of Pakistan,” said Raza Haroon..

About Siyal’s criticism of MQM-founder Altaf Hussain, the PSP leader said that PPP MPA can criticise the MQM founder but he has no right to insult a whole community because of an indivitual’s deeds.
