Tax on luxury vehicles: Zardari to reply to FBR notice on April 10: sources

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari in an answer to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) notice said he will submit his reply on April 10, citing sources ARY News reported on Wednesday.

The People’s Party leader in his plea to the FBR said that he wants to review the joint investigation team (JIT) report, quoted by the FBR notice, and can submit reply to the tax authority by April 10, sources said.

According to sources, the FBR had sought his explanation with regard to the taxes paid on his various vehicles.

Zardari was not summoned by the FBR in person, the sources said.

The FBR had issued a notice to the former president in a case where payment for imported bullet proof vehicles was made allegedly from a fake bank account.

The tax authorities had issued a notice asking Zardari for explanation till March 25, 2019.

The notice said that during the probe conducted by Joint Investigation Team (JIT) into fake accounts on the Supreme Court orders it transpired that you (Asif Ali Zardari) paid Customs duties and other taxes of certain luxury vehicles from suspicious sources, including fake bank accounts.

According to the FBR notice, three pay orders amounting Rs37.16 million, issued to Collector Customs for clearance of these vehicles.
