FAISALABAD: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police claimed to have gunned down four suspected terrorists associated with a proscribed outfit in a “shootout” in Faisalabad late on Friday night.

Security officials said four terror suspects were killed while three of their accomplices managed to escape after a gun battle between them and the personnel of the CTD.

A CTD spokesperson said the personnel signaled the suspects riding motorcycles to stop at Sarghoda road, but they opened fire and tried to escape. When the personnel returned fire, four were killed while three others managed to escape.

He said the alleged militants were affiliated with a banned outfit and were planning to carry out major acts of terrorism in the city.

He said illicit arms and explosive material have been recovered from their possession.

Earlier, two suspected terrorists were shot dead and four others had managed to escape after a fierce gunfight with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan.

According to the CTD police, a targeted raid was carried out in Jalalpur Pirwala area following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists there.

CTD officials said as the law enforcement personnel cordoned off the area and challenged the terrorists to surrender, they opened fire on the personnel instead. In the retaliatory fire, two terrorists were killed while four others managed to escape the scene of the encounter.

The officials said they have recovered arms, hand grenade and explosive material from their possession.
