Abdul Sattar Edhi began his charitable work as a young passionate man. The Edhi Foundation that he started now offers a broad range of free social services that includes ambulances, orphanages and support for the elderly and disabled.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed his sorrow at Edhi’s death and prayed that he would have ‘the best place in paradise’.
“We have lost a great servant of humanity,” said Sharif while remembering the greatest humanitarian worker.

He opened his first clinic in 1951 and his Edhi Foundation grew to be Pakistan’s largest welfare organisation, running schools, hospitals and ambulance services across the country and worldwide.

Edhi was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2013. He actually turned down an offer from former president Asif Ali Zardari to get a treatment abroad.
