Two more districts to be created in Gilgit-Baltistan, says CM

GILGIT: Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman has announced that two more districts are being created from Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Speaking at a public gathering in Chilas, Mr Rehman said the Deral Valley and the Tangir Valley in Diamer would be the two new districts and a notification in this regard would be issued next month.

After the creation of Deral and Tangir districts, there will be a total of 12 districts in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rs50 billion would be designated in the next annual budget for establishing the new districts, the CM said asserting, “This is a message for our political opponents who claim that we cannot do so.”

Talking about other development work in the district, Rehman said 400 people had been provided employment in the area while a 200-bed hospital would be completed in Diamer within seven months.

“Rs1bn would be provided for constructing a polo ground in Chilas, he added.

The chief minister also assured that the issue of shortage of medical experts in government hospitals would also be resolved.

Last week, Punjab Minister for Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid announced that 11 ambulances and other medical equipment worth Rs200 million were being gifted by the Punjab Health Department to the people of Gilgit Baltistan as a good will gesture.

As per details, the health package for the people of GB included seven automatic Elisa, nine chemistry analyzers, four digital radiography, nine X-ray film processors, 22 dental unit components, 22 dental instruments, seven bio-chemistry analyzers, four c-arms, 30 cardiac monitors and 70 cardiac beds besides 11 ambulances.
