Two suspected robbers killed in Karachi shoot-outs

KARACHI: Police claimed to have shot dead two alleged robbers in two separate ‘shoot-outs’ in different parts of the metropolis on Saturday night.

Police said they raided a house in Shah Latif Town’s Lashari neighborhood to arrest a suspect who was involved in robberies. The law enforcement personnel asked him to surrender but he defied the orders and fired multiple shots at them and in the retaliatory fire he was killed, they added.

They said the suspect had carried out a robbery with his accomplices at a restaurant in Gulshan-e-Maymar and was identified with the help of close circuit TV cameras.

In another encounter, an alleged robber was killed while his accomplice managed to escape in the Korangi area, police said.

Meanwhile, Orangi Town police arrested 16 suspects and recovered thirteen pistols and snatched mobile phones from their possession. The suspects included a fake CTD personnel and journalist, the police said adding that further investigation with regard to their possible involvement in other crimes is underway.

A day before, in a raid in Kotri city of Jamshoro district, police had arrested Mahboob alias Shahzad, who was wanted in the murder case of Shahid Hamid, then chief of KESC, the utility supplying electricity to the city.

KESC MD along with his driver and a guard were gunned down in the Defence Housing Authority on July 5, 1997.

Earlier, an anti-terrorism court had sentenced Saulat Ali Khan, better known as Saulat Mirza, to death in 1999 in the case who was executed in Balochistan’s Machh jail on May 12, 2015.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police had arrested a suspected target killer, said to be associated with a political party, during a raid in Karachi’s Qasba Colony.
