U.S. Consulate celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week in Karachi

“Global Entrepreneurship Week is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare,” said Consul General Brian Heath. “Today’s panel highlighted the spirit of innovation and the business acumen of Pakistani entrepreneurs to identify opportunities in the local and national economy.”

The panel discussion featured four entrepreneurs: Muhammad Waqas of Wondertree; Sennen Desouza of the Investor Lounge; Sohail Zindani of the Learning Minds Group; and Jehan Ara of P@SHA.

“Startups with great ideas can make a difference.  For example, at   WonderTree, by creating augmented reality games for children with special needs, the startup seeks to improve the motor, cognitive and functional skills of these children,” added Consul General Heath.

In 2015, the U.S. government introduced new partnerships with entrepreneurship centers across Pakistan, including the world’s first Women’s Entrepreneurial Center of Resources, Education, Access, and Training for Economic Empowerment (WECREATE) in Islamabad sponsored by the U.S. Department of State in collaboration with the U.S. Pakistan Women’s Council; the Lahore University for Management Science (LUMS) Center for Entrepreneurship; and Karachi-based technology incubator “The Nest I/O”.

These partnerships and centers will ensure that newly established businesses receive sustained support and mentoring, essential tools for long-term success.

Numerous U.S. Embassy programs assist Pakistan’s entrepreneurs by increasing their access to financial resources, supporting opportunities for entrepreneurship education, and nurturing an entrepreneurial culture.
