UK announces £3m flood relief aid for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The United Kingdom on Friday announced £3 million in emergency aid to support Pakistan’s relief efforts amid the ongoing floods in the country.
According to the Foreign Office, UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and expressed the UK’s solidarity with Pakistan in responding to the devastating impacts of the floods and the ongoing monsoon season.
She highlighted that the £3 million aid would support emergency relief and response efforts, with additional humanitarian assistance for recovery to follow, in coordination with the Pakistan government and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The deputy prime minister appreciated the timely commitment and the UK’s understanding of the scale of devastation and urgent needs, and conveyed gratitude for the UK’s support in relief and recovery efforts.
Both sides also discussed bilateral relations, the importance of high-level exchanges, and recent regional and international developments.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a detailed report highlighting the devastating impact of floods across Punjab, with millions affected and relief operations underway, ARY News reported.
According to the PDMA report, widespread flooding has affected 4,489 villages across Punjab, impacting more than 4.49 million people, according to the latest report from

The report stated that 672 villages along the Sutlej River and 1,482 along the Ravi River were inundated. Around 2.45 million people have been shifted to safe locations, while 396 relief camps, 490 medical camps, and 405 veterinary camps have been set up in affected districts.
The floods also forced the relocation of more than 1.9 million livestock. Meanwhile, Mangla Dam has reached 92% of its capacity, while Tarbela Dam is completely filled. On the Indian side, Bhakra Dam is 90% full, Pong 99%, and Thein 97%, the report added.
