Viggo Mortensen’s Aragorn to be recast in ‘The Hunt for Gollum’

There’s no going back to the original king this time. Viggo Mortensen will not return as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, with the filmmakers now actively looking for a new actor to step into one of Middle-earth’s most iconic roles.

Director Andy Serkis, who is also reprising his role as Gollum, has confirmed that the production is already underway in finding a replacement.

The decision effectively closes the door on Viggo Mortensen’s return, something fans had quietly hoped for despite the years since the original Lord of the Rings trilogy.
