WATCH: Dubai gets world's first robot policeman

DUBAI: The world’s first operational robot policeman has joined Dubai police and is ready to engage with people on city’s streets, Dubai police tweeted on Monday.

Brigadier-General Khalid Nasser Al Razzouqi, director-general of Smart Services at Dubai Police told media houses like CNN and Arabian Business Magazine that citizens can ask the robot questions, pay fines and access a variety of police information, adding that this one is first of a fleet of robots as Dubai plans to recruit enough robots to make up 25% of its police force by 2030.

The Robocop, standing 170 centimetres tall and weighing 100 kilogrammes, is equipped with an emotion detector that can recognise gestures and hand signals from up to 1.5 metres away.
The Robocop can also detect a person’s emotions and facial expressions — whether the individual is happy, sad, or smiling — and has the ability to change his expression and greetings accordingly to put people at ease.
“The next stage is already in research & development and the aim is to create a fully-functional robot that can work as a normal police officer,” Razzouqi told CNN.
