Norway leads Olympics medals table after winning two golds

SOCHI: Norway currently leads the medals table of 2014 Winter Olympics after winning two gold medals here in Sochi on Saturday, ARY News reports.

Norway is at top of the medals table after winning two gold medals and one silver and bronze medal each.

The first Olympic gold medal for Norway came when Ole Einar Bjoerndalen won the final of Men's 10 km Sprint. Marit Bjoergen secured the second gold for Norway after winning the 15 km Skiathlon event.

Canada's Justine Dufour Lapointe defeated her sister Chloe in the final of mogul skiing to win the gold medal.

Sven Kramer of Netherlands won the 5000 metre Speed Skating event.

United States of America also opened their gold medal account in the Sochi Olympics after Sage Kotsenburg won the Snowboard slope style event.

On the other hand, President of the United States Barack Obama has extended his well wishes to the US delegation in the Games.

In a statement from White House, Barack Obama said that he was proud of all the US atheletes taking part in the Olympics. He added that the US delegation will have to show a memorable performance in the mega event.

230 American atheletes are taking part in the Winter Olympics at Sochi this year.
