QUETTA: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday recorded the statements of two prosecution witnesses in a case registered against MPA Majeed Achakzai for allegedly running over and killing a traffic sergeant.

The ATC-I recorded the statements of witnesses – Muhammad Asif and Abdul Ghafoor – and adjourned the hearing till December 09.

Achakzai appeared before the court as it resumed his trial in the criminal case registered against him for running over and killing traffic sub-inspector Haji Attaullah on June 20 this year near GPO Chowk in Balochistan provincial capital Quetta.

On September 18, the court framed charges against the MPA, which he denied and opted to contest them.

Police had arrested Achakzai following a video showing his vehicle running over the traffic officer began circulating on the social networking sites.

According to police, traffic sergeant Attaullah died after hit by a rashly driven land cruiser on June 20 while he was performing his duty at the GPO Chowk on Zarghoon Road.

Achakzai was later booked in two more cases – one pertaining to a kidnapping registered at the Satellite Town police station back in 2009.

It merits mention here that Majeed Achakzai is also a close relative of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai.  He was elected from the PB-13 constituency in Qilla Abdullah district.
