Lahore: Woman lodges complaint against in-laws over ‘severe torture’

LAHORE: A woman in Lahore approached the police on Thursday over ‘severe torture’ by her husband, ARY News reported.

Identified as Hajra Bibi, the woman lodged a case against her husband Umair and his brother Haris over a dowry dispute. She said she had been suffering severe torture from her husband over the period of time due to dowry.

The lady said she bore several torture marks due to assault by her in-laws, husband and his brother in particular.

The police arrested Haris and produced him before the court today. The magistrate handed over the accused to police on a two-day physical remand.

Police said they were searching for the husband and he would be arrested soon.

A barbaric incident was reported on March 27 in which a woman was subjected to vicious torture and her head was shaved by her husband as she reportedly refused to dance in front of his friends.

The affected woman, who identified herself as Asma Aziz, alleged in a video message, that her husband Mian Faisal along with his companions beat her with iron pipes, shaved her head, and threatened to strangle her when she denied dancing in front of them.

Later, the woman’s husband was arrested. Chief minister Punjab had also taken notice of the incident and sought a report in this regard.
