Woman killed, two men injured in unprovoked Indian shelling in AJK

RAWALAKOT: Indian troops on Friday resorted to unprovoked shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC), killing a woman and injuring two men in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Rashida Begum, 55, was killed while two men were injured in Poonch district’s Rawalakot town as a result of intense shelling by Indian forces without any provocation, according to the local police.
Earlier this week, the Foreign Office (FO) summoned the Indian deputy high commissioner and lodged a protest over the cross-border attack in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), which claimed life of an elderly woman.
The FO’s South Asia chief urged the Indian diplomat to respect the ceasefire accord and investigate the violation, the FO said in a statement.
An elderly woman was killed on Tuesday when the Indian army resorted to an unprovoked firing in Chirikot sector along the Line of Control (LoC), Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Last week, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the LoC in Chirikot sector.
The premier was briefed by the general officer commanding on the situation along LoC, the Indian ceasefire violations targeting civilians and befitting response by Pakistan Army.
Moreover, the prime minister condemned the Indian unprofessional approach of targeting innocent civilians. He said that Pakistan shall continue its political, diplomatic and moral support to Kashmiris for their just struggle.
