BANGKOK: A 65-year-old woman in Thailand was mistakenly declared dead and placed in a coffin at a temple.
She was about to be cremated at a temple in Bangkok when she was actually found alive. Temple staff were shocked to hear faint knocking coming from the coffin.
Pairat Soodthoop, the temple’s general manager, said he was shocked to hear a faint knocking coming from the casket.
“I was a bit surprised, so I asked them to open the coffin, and everyone was startled,” he said, talking to local media.
Pairat added, “I saw her opening her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin. She must have been knocking for quite some time.”
The woman, who had been presumed dead for two days, was found to be alive and even opening her eyes slightly.
It turned out that the woman’s brother had been informed of her death by local officials, but no official death certificate had been issued.
After the astonishing discovery, the temple’s abbot arranged for the woman to be rushed to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with severe hypoglycemia, a condition where her blood sugar had dropped to dangerously low levels.
Fortunately, she hadn’t suffered any respiratory failure or cardiac arrest.
